Penn State New Kensington invites applications for a faculty position, Lecturer (Masters level) or Assistant Teaching Professor (Doctoral Level) in Biology (36 weeks, fixed-term multi-year appointment, 3 years with option for renewal) to begin August 2020 or as negotiated. Responsibilities include teaching a range of introductory undergraduate courses (typically 12 credit hours per semester) in anatomy and physiology including lecture and lab courses. Teaching assignments may include evening classes and online/hybrid instruction. Participate in scholarly activity to allow currency in the field. Participate in course, curriculum, and program development. Advise students and provide career guidance. Participate in campus, university, and community service activities. A Master's degree in biology or a closely related discipline is required, as is prior college-level teaching experience. Broad teaching expertise in anatomy and physiology will be important to this position, as will an ability to teach non-science majors. Demonstrated commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important. Penn State New Kensington is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses located across the Commonwealth. Our 70-acre campus in scenic, rural Westmoreland County is situated only 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, and the location offers a wide range of lifestyles from urban to rural. We are a student-centered campus of approximately 600 students. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as 10 baccalaureate degrees and 5 associate degrees that can be completed at the campus.
