The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT GREENSBORO

Greensboro, North Carolina

THE SEARCH

The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) – an academic collaboration between the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) and North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T) – welcomes applications and nominations for the role of Chair of the Department of Nanoscience. The department is an administrative unit of UNCG and maintains a close relationship with the Department of Nanoengineering, an administrative unit of NC A&T. This is a pivotal time for nanoscience at JSNN and nationally. The field of nanoscience has been changing the way we conceptualize the relations between science, technology, and engineering, and developing synergies with nearly every sector and industry. Mirroring these trends, the Department of Nanoscience at JSNN has undergone rapid and impressive growth since its founding in 2010 and now seeks a chair to solidify its place as a catalyst for breakthrough innovations across academia, industry and government.

Reporting to the Dean of JSNN, the Chair will join the Department of Nanoscience as a tenured professor at UNCG. S/he will leverage the existing strengths to expand research productivity and external funding; promote a culture of excellence and academic success; recruit and retain a diverse, cohesive and highly collaborative faculty; grow and enhance educational programs; enhance student recruitment; facilitate student success and satisfaction; and foster strategic partnerships internally and externally. The Chair will chart an innovative course for long-term growth in the research profile of the department.

The successful candidate will be a skilled leader, administrator, and collaborator who is recognized in the field of nanoscience as an outstanding scientist. Candidates for this position will have a Ph.D. and a strong record of research accomplishments in a scientific discipline consistent with the composition of the department, with significant leadership and administrative experience. UNCG has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to help with this recruitment. Confidential inquiries, nominations, and applications may be submitted to Isaacson, Miller as indicated at the end of this document. For more information, please visit: www.isaacsonmiller.com/7113.
