Tenure Track Assistant Professor, Biology

The University of St. Thomas Biology Department invites applications for a Tenure-Track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2020.

The University of St. Thomas embraces diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunity for all.  Our convictions of dignity, diversity and personal attention call us to embody and champion a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.  We welcome applicants of diverse races, ethnicities, geographic origins, gender identities, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, religions, work experience, physical and intellectual abilities and financial means.  We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.  This commitment is consistent with our university mission: Inspired by Catholic intellectual tradition the University of St. Thomas educates students to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely and work skillfully to advance the common good.  A successful candidate will possess a commitment to the ideals of this mission.

We are seeking an integrative organismal biologist who is committed to building a career as a scholar and a teacher.  The successful candidate will exhibit potential to teach undergraduate biology courses at the introductory and/or upper-division levels.  We value the potential to contribute to more than one of the undergraduate majors that the Biology Department supports (Biology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, Global Health, and Neuroscience).  The successful candidate will establish a high-quality research program that provides opportunities for undergraduate collaboration and has the potential to be competitive for external funding. The Biology Department actively seeks to attract, retain and develop faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds to enhance the diversity of the learning community, and to offer our students richly varied perspectives.

Research support will include start-up funds, laboratory/computing space in a science facility, and a time allocation for mentoring undergraduate research partners.  The Biology Department is committed to undergraduate education and engaging undergraduate students in a dynamic research environment.  Our full-time faculty are recipients of major, externally-funded research grants, and our facilities are well-equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation.  For more information, visit our website https://www.stthomas.edu/biology/research/.
