Programme Leader in Immunology and Infection
Starting Salary £50,864 - £62,823 per annum
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge UK
Division of Protein and Nucleic Acid Chemistry (PNAC)

The MRC LMB invites applications for a tenure-track Group Leader position within the PNAC Division.  We seek a colleague with an exciting vision and outstanding track-record who will address fundamental questions relating to molecular mechanisms of immunity and infection.

The primary selection criteria are scientific excellence and the potential for synergy with existing research programmes (www2.mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk/research/protein-and-nucleic-acid-chemistry/). You should hold a PhD and have an excellent publication record with outstanding potential for independent research.

PNAC Division is committed to creating a diverse workforce and we particularly encourage applications from women and people from BAME backgrounds as they are under-represented at this level.

The position provides substantial core funding for your research. Your group will be hosted in our new and custom-built institute, which provides exceptional core facilities. Administrative duties are minimal and no teaching is required. Interactions with groups across the four Divisions of the LMB are vibrant and encouraged.

The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org.

Working for UKRI MRC provides a host of benefits including a defined benefit pension scheme, excellent holiday entitlement (40½ days including bank holidays and privilege days) and Benenden Healthcare membership.  You will also have access to employee shopping/travel discounts, on site sport and social facilities, as well as salary sacrifice cycle to work schemes and childcare facilities.

Informal enquiries can be made to Andrew McKenzie (anm@mrc-lmb.cam.ac.uk).

Additional information:

This appointment will be made at either Programme Leader or Programme Leader-track level, depending on achievements and experience.

Candidates for Programme Leader position should have a strong international track record of relevant independent research and a proven ability to lead a research team, pursuing original approaches to long-term research goals.

Programme Leader-track appointments will be made for those who have demonstrated the potential to develop into Programme Leaders within six years.

Candidates with appropriate levels of experience may be given responsibility for oversight of core scientific activities with the LMB.

Closing date: The post will remain open until it is filled but applications received by 1st December 2019 will receive priority.

Final appointments will be subject to a pre-employment screening.
