Postdoctoral Position in Immunology

The Sutterwala and Cassel labs (https://www.cedars-sinai.edu/Research/Research-Labs/Sutterwala-and-Cassel-Lab/) are recruiting postdoctoral fellows to study NLR biology in innate and adaptive immune responses and also non-immunological roles such as senescence and tissue repair. Research projects include characterization of novel phenotypes in genetically modified animals and determining the mechanisms that create the in vivo findings. Some examples of ongoing research projects include:

1)    Evaluating the contribution of mitophagy and mitochondrial haplogroups in innate immune signaling (Iyer et al. Immunity 2013; Elliott et al. J Immunol 2018).

2)    Defining the role of macrophage and dendritic cell NLRC4 in controlling CD4 and CD8 T cell responses (Janowski et al. J Clin Invest 2016; Hornick et al. J Clin Invest 2019).

3)    Evaluation of NLR function in cellular senescence in a model of acute lung injury.

4)    Determining the mechanism of NLRP12-mediated recruitment of neutrophils to inflammatory sites (Ulland et al. Nat Commun 2016).

Highly-motivated candidates with a recent PhD or MD/PhD in biomedical sciences and experience in immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or murine models are encouraged to apply. Experience with mitochondrial biology, tumor immunology, cell cycle regulation, and/or metabolism are a plus. Candidates should be enthusiastic, hardworking, collaborative, and self-motivated. Candidates should also have a strong record of scientific accomplishment. US citizens/ permanent residents may be eligible for NRSA fellowship support.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is located in Los Angeles and is one of the largest non-profit academic medical centers in the U.S. Cedars-Sinai has a large and vibrant research enterprise as well as highly sought-after clinical training programs.

Interested candidates should send their curriculum vitae, a brief description of their current and future research interests and contact information for three references to Dr. Fayyaz Sutterwala at fayyaz.sutterwala@cshs.org
