As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

Within the framework of a joint appointment, the Medical Faculty of the Universität Leipzig and the Helmholtz Zentrum München invite applications for a

University Professorship (W2, limited to 6 years) in Applied Vascular Research and the also initially limited position of Head of the field Vascular Research of the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research (HI-MAG) of the Helmholtz Zentrum München at the Universität Leipzig
(reference number B 6/2018)

at the earliest possible date. The professorship will be converted to long-term status in case the head of the research area is reappointed after the deadline.

For this position, we are looking for a scientist in the area of vascular medicine (peripheral, non-coronary vessels) whose accomplishments in research and education have proven scientific independence. Several years of scientific activity in the area of vascular medicinal research as proof of the ability to plan, manage and execute epidemiologic, translational and clinical studies are a prerequisite. Moreover, the candidate is expected to develop scientific projects, to initiate research associations, to support young scientists, and to participate in the research alliances of the Medical Faculty and the Helmholtz Association, especially regarding the research areas obesity and metabolism at HI-MAG and long-term complications of diabetes at Helmholtz Zentrum München.

Employment requirements are a university degree in medicine, a doctorate and postdoctoral qualifications or equal achievements within the research area, extensive teaching experience, as well as recognition as a specialist in internal medicine focusing on angiology. Due to the structural link with the Division of Angiology of the University Hospital Leipzig, broad practical experience in endovascular peripheral interventions would be an advantage. Exceptional research performance and grant acquisition are expected.

All rights and duties of the holder of the position result from the Saxon University Freedom Law (SächsHSFG) and the Saxon Dienstaufgabenverordnung (DAVOHS). Applicants have to meet the appointment qualifications in accordance with section 58 of SächsHSFG.

The appointment as head of the field vascular research within the Helmholtz Institute for Metabolic, Obesity and Vascular Research will be carried out under the terms of a private-law contract.

Clinical duties will be implemented as stipulated by the Saxonian Law on University Medicine (Sächsisches Hochschulmedizingesetz), passed at Leipzig University Hospital, a public institution, on May 6th 1999.

The Faculty of Medicine and the Helmholtz Zentrum München aim at increasing the number of women in research and academia. Therefore, qualified female scientists are explicitly encouraged to apply. Equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be preferred. Universität Leipzig and Helmholtz Zentrum München offer support for dual-career couples.

Please submit your full application, including the standard documents (publication list, list of academic teaching activities, certified copy of the highest academic qualification, license to practice medicine, evidence of formal qualifications, additional specialized trainings as well as up to 10 selected reprints of original peer reviewed publications) including an application form (available at https://www.uniklinikum-leipzig.de/Seiten/mf-berufungsverfahren.aspx) by 6 December 2019 to:
