JUNIOR PROFESSORSHIP (W1) FOR MATHEMATICS 

 

commencing as soon as possible, ref. no. JP 301.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to teach and conduct research in the field and be recognized for research in one of the fields of research pursued by the Department of Mathematics. The area of work should meaningfully contribute to the existing research in the Department of Mathematics and thus increase the potential for departmental and interdepartmental collaboration.

The applicant should submit an overview, maximum two pages in length, setting out previous research findings, subject specialization, and research objectives for the junior professorship. This overview should also identify potential for collaboration within the Department.

We also expect the successful candidate to participate in undergraduate teaching in the Department of Mathematics, in the degree programs of other subject areas, and in teacher training degrees, providing support for the reformed teacher education due to begin in Winter Semester 2020/21.

 

Section 12 subsection 7 sentence 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) applies.

Requirements:

Academic qualifications and additional requirements as specified in Section 18 HmbHG.

Additional criteria:

Applicants are expected to have international research experience as well as a successful track record in acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects. The University places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching and therefore requests that applicants provide details of their teaching experience and objectives.

The post holder is expected to acquire the language skills necessary to teach in German (Level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) within two years of commencing employment providing he or she does not have the requisite skills when starting.

Junior professors have academic autonomy in their research and teaching. To ensure synergies in research and teaching, applicants’ subject interests are expected to relate to topics in the area.
