Assistant Professor, Vanderbilt University, School of Medicine Basic Sciences

The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine Basic Sciences (VBSand Vanderbilt Data Science Institute (DSI) invite applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a combined search between the four basic sciences departments, including Cell and Developmental Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Molecular Physiology and Biophysics. We seek candidates in Computational Biomedicine who are using innovative computational approaches to address important and challenging problems in the basic biomedical sciences. Candidates working on network biology in genomics, integration of data with prior knowledge networks, data-driven structure prediction, imaged-based geospatial analysis, or deep learning applied to cellular resolution images are especially encouraged to apply, but our principal selection criterion will be scientific excellence. Candidates with only a dry lab component or both wet and dry components are eligible to apply.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant and diverse research community. The four VBS departments (https://medschool.vanderbilt.edu/basic-sciences/) are each ranked in the top 10 in NIH funding across all US medical schools (http://www.brimr.org/NIH_Awards/2018/NIH_Awards_2018.htm), and have exceptional faculty using state-of-the-art approaches, with recent large investments in cryo-electron microscopy/tomography and genomics at single-cell resolution. The successful candidate will also participate in the DSI (https://www.vanderbilt.edu/datascience/). This highly collaborative research environment presents opportunities for the successful candidate to interact with multiple premier interdisciplinary groups across both the University and the adjacent Medical Center. Candidates are expected to develop a strong and creative research program and participate in graduate education.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, two-page research plan, reprints of up to three recent publications, and arrange for three recommendation letters to be sent directly by referees to this Interfolio link, apply.interfolio.com/70310.  Evaluation of applicants will begin December 1, 2019.
