The Biology Department in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Dakota (UND) is seeking a 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant or Associate Professor specializing in Aquatic Ecology starting August 16, 2020, contingent upon available funding. Consideration for an Associate professor appointment requires that the candidate have an active externally-funded research project whose funding will continue after their hire.

The Department of Biology is an academic unit in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of North Dakota. It serves nearly 600 undergraduate majors, 1000 undergraduate non-majors, and >25 graduate students. In addition to teaching, our faculty members are involved in research programs that address fundamental questions in the biological sciences. Funding to conduct research comes from internal (i.e., UND) as well as external sources (i.e., local, national, and federal grants). The department offers graduate degrees through the Ph.D.

The Fisheries and Wildlife program boasts an active student population that has received numerous recognitions from The Wildlife Society and whose students go on to work for state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and other conservation organizations. To strengthen the fisheries aspect of the program, we seek a broadly trained Aquatic Ecologist with particular expertise in Fish Ecology that considers fish in their larger ecosystem. We especially encourage applications from candidates with expertise in field studies combined with strong multivariate data analytical skills.

The University of North Dakota (UND) is a public research University established in 1883. Founded with a strong liberal arts foundation, UND has grown into a prominent scientific research university, classified by the Carnegie Foundation as having high research activity. UND was recently ranked among the top 100 public and top 25 most innovative universities in the country by U.S. News and World Report, and is widely regarded as among the top universities in the US Northern Plains region. Currently, the University boasts 200+ fields of study with nearly 14,000 students.  The University is centrally located between the North Dakota and Minnesota lakes regions and numerous year-round recreation opportunities exist in the region.
