Research Associate (3-309-1010) The Department of Medicine’s Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore has an opening for Research Associate (non-tenure track) position to work in the laboratory of Dr. Liqing Yu.

An MD, PhD, or MD/PhD scientist is sought to study the role of lipid metabolism in the pathogenesis of common metabolic diseases associated with obesity, such as insulin resistance, fatty liver, and cardiovascular abnormalities. Using genetically engineered mouse models, the Yu lab has shown that brown adipose tissue lipid droplet lipolysis critically regulates white adipose tissue browning and adipose innervation. The major goal of the study is to molecularly define how lipid droplet lipolysis regulates metabolic/bioenergetic fuel selection and signaling pathways in adipocytes as well as how adipose lipolysis communicates with other organs including the central nervous system to maintain whole-body thermogenesis, energy balance, and metabolic health. The successful candidate will help the PI advise trainees and will perform experiments involving biochemistry, molecular/cell biology, murine models of disease, metabolic phenotyping, and systems biology (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics). Prior experience in at least some of these methodologies is required. Candidates should be highly motivated, be able to work independently, have critical thinking abilities, and good written and oral English communication skills.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in life science or M.D. and expertise in techniques of molecular and cell biology, molecular genetics, and neuroendocrinology and/or pathophysiology.

Qualified candidates must submit applications using the following link:  https://umb.taleo.net/careersection/jobdetail.ftl?job=190000YP&lang=en

When applying, please submit a CV, a short statement of research interests, and the names and contact information for three references.   For additional questions after application, please email facultypostings@medicine.umaryland.edu
