Post-Doctoral Research Associate – University of Arizona

The Vercelli laboratory at the Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC) is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will investigate the mechanisms involved in complex respiratory diseases, with specific emphasis on asthma. The successful applicant will work on cutting-edge projects investigating in vivo and in vitro asthma-protective responses to environmental and gut microbiota. This research will be critical to the University and A2DRC’s efforts to advance multidisciplinary translational programs in airway disease and asthma prevention.  The Vercelli laboratory is internationally renowned for its seminal research on the mechanisms underlying asthma protection in microbe-rich farm environments (N Engl J Med 2016, PMID:27518660; N Engl J Med 2016, PMID:27959651; J Allergy Clin Immunol. 2019, PMID:31401285). Research in the laboratory integrates population data with immunology, microbiology, genetics, epigenetics, and cutting-edge technology in order to understand the pathogenesis of airway disease and develop effective prevention strategies. This is consistent with the A2DRC’s mission to decipher the risk factors, natural history, biology and optimal treatments of asthma in children.

The University of Arizona is an Equal Opportunity Employer Minorities/Women/Vets/Disabled.

EXPERIENCE: Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in a relevant field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in microbiome analysis
  • Experience with in vivo mouse work (intra-peritoneal immunizations and intra-nasal exposure, dissection, perfusion, lung function measurements, genotyping)
  • Experience in immunology research: in vitro cellular techniques (tissue culture, cell isolation, flow cytometry), ELISA, molecular techniques (nucleic acid isolation, PCR)
  • Highly self-motivated
  • Good communication skills
