Assistant/Associate Professor, Biochemistry and Cell Biology

Required Qualifications

The Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology at Stony Brook University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates doing innovative work in any area of biochemistry, molecular, or cell biology are encouraged to apply. We particularly welcome applications from candidates using quantitative methods to explore questions in the areas of membrane biology, cytoskeleton, chromatin, or metabolism.

Candidates must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. in Biological Sciences or related field.

At least 2 years of postgraduate experience in a related field

Outstanding record of research accomplishment

Comprised of faculty in both the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Medicine, the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology is an active, collaborative community of scholars with broad research interests dedicated to both scientific discovery and to education at undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. Beyond the Department there are opportunities for collaboration with other research programs including the Stony Brook Cancer Center, the Laufer Center for Physical and Quantitative Biology, and the Institute for Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery. In addition, the University maintains professionally staffed core facilities to support research including ones for proteomics, next generation sequencing, NMR spectroscopy, and microscopy.

Preferred Qualifications

Research program using quantitative approaches to address questions in the area of cell biology of membranes and cytoskeletons, chromatin and chromosome behavior, or metabolism.

Has established an independent research area with a high probability of acquiring external funding.

Senior candidates should have a record of success with extramural funding and training of graduate students.

Responsibilities & Requirements

The successful applicant is expected to establish a vibrant, extramural funded research program. To participate fully in teaching at the Undergraduate, Masters, and Ph.D. level and to participate full in service activities for the Department and the University.

Special Notes

This is a tenure track position.  FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.  Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Anticipated Start Date:  8/15/2020
