Post-Doctoral Position in Computational Fluid Dynamics
The Environmental Genomics and Systems Biology (EGSB) team includes a varied group of experimentalists, computational scientists, and theorists within the Environmental Laboratory of the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). Our mission is to provide innovative solutions to complex problems using a comprehensive approach that is both multiscale and multidisciplinary.
The EGSB team is currently accepting CVs for a 1 year post-doctoral opportunity (less than 5 years from graduation of a PhD), with renewal dependent upon funding and performance, in support of applied research and development projects in computational fluid dynamics. The applicant will assist in the development of computational models for fluid/gas flow near partially reactive complex surfaces at varied length and time scales. More specifically, there is need to model the distribution of chemicals transported across rough (urban, peri-urban) terrain affected by deposition and absorption on surface features resolved between 1-1000 meters. The applicant can be expected to apply methods such as finite element modeling or stochastic modeling in addition to analytic methods to the problem. Successful applicants will have obtained a PhD in a field indicative of mathematical or computational training, such as chemical or mechanical engineering, mathematics, computational physics, atmospheric science, and others as appropriate. The candidate will exhibit the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to code mathematical models and conduct numerical simulations. Knowledge of C/C++ and Python programming is desired for submission of computational tasks to ERDC supercomputing resources. There is opportunity to work with an experienced and diverse team of PhD-level scientists with expertise in theoretical physics, physical chemistry, bioinformatics, genetics, molecular biology, and toxicology. Expected salaries for qualified applicants will be dependent upon experience, but may range between $51,440 -$74,596 per annum.
