Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position in Genetics and Orthopaedic Surgery focusing on musculoskeletal and nervous system interactions

The Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital invite applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant Professor level.  The appointee will be a full member and active participant in the Department of Genetics (http://genetics.med.harvard.edu) at Harvard Medical School, and will be given laboratory space in the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories and be employed at Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery Foundation, a faculty practice plan affiliated with Boston Children’s Hospital (http://www.childrenshospital.org).

The search committee, which includes faculty members from both Departments, seeks an individual who will direct independent, innovative, and important research focusing on the interaction between the nervous and musculoskeletal systems, exploring a topic such as signaling between nerves and bone cells, pain sensation, peripheral nervous system development, and nerve regeneration.

The 48 faculty members in the Department of Genetics have wide-ranging research interests that include synthetic biology, genome structure and regulation, evolution, organ system development, and human disease.  Interests of the 5 full-time faculty in the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories, 2 of whom are also in the Department of Genetics, include human skeletal disease; mechanisms underlying skeletal patterning and growth; and the development, repair, and regeneration of skeletal tissues and structures.  In addition to joining the vibrant research communities in each Department, the successful candidate will participate in their teaching activities.

Applicants must hold a PhD, MD/PhD, or MD degree, have completed post-doctoral training, and have a strong record of research accomplishments. Applications should contain a curriculum vitae, a 3-page description of research accomplishments and future research interests, and reprints of 1 or 2 important publications.  Applications are due by December 2, 2019.  Applicants should also arrange for 3 letters of recommendation that are due by December 9, 2019.  All materials and letters can be uploaded via the following website:
