Assistant Professor of Biology

The Department of Biology at Knox College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor in organismal and/or molecular biology beginning Fall 2020. Knox is an independent, selective liberal arts institution with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. We are particularly interested in candidates who can contribute to teaching and learning for a diverse student body in which more than 30 percent are first-generation college students, 35 percent are domestic students of color, and 17 percent international students.

The specific field of specialization is open; candidates in areas such as, but not limited to, microbiology, virology, parasitology, plant physiology, and genetics are encouraged to apply, especially those working with organisms other than vertebrates. Candidates should complement the department’s current expertise in comparative anatomy, developmental biology, behavior, ecology, and neurobiology. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses as well as upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Candidates are also expected to develop an active research program with opportunities for significant participation by undergraduates.  For more information about Biology at Knox visit: Biology Majors and Minors.

Qualifications: Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience are preferred, but exceptional ABD candidates will be considered.

Candidates should submit a cover letter addressing how the candidate’s teaching interests and experiences are suited to a selective, diverse liberal arts college; a curriculum vitae; a statement of teaching philosophy and research interests; and three confidential letters of recommendation.

Submission via Interfolio: http://apply.interfolio.com/69919. Questions may be addressed to Dr. James Mountjoy at biologysearch@knox.edu.

Review of applications will begin on November 18 and continue until the position is filled.
