Position Description:

Torii and Hashimoto-Torii labs (https://hashimototorii.org) at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC are seeking 2 - 3 highly motivated postdocs to study the mechanisms underlying normal and pathological development of the cerebral cortex.

The Torii lab focuses on understanding how various processes such as cell migration/positioning and neural circuit formation/refinement are orchestrated during brain development, and how these processes go awry in neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders such as autism and epilepsy. The Hashimoto-Torii lab seeks to understand how adverse prenatal environment causes reprogramming of normal brain development and consequently increase the incidence of neuropsychiatric disorders including schizophrenia and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders. Both laboratories also aim at translating the findings from these studies into development of novel drugs and therapeutic methods. To achieve these goals, we use a wide range of techniques and technologies including in vivo gene manipulation, reporter transgenic mice, iPS cell cultures, cortical organoid, 3D microfabrication, and single-cell RNA sequencing.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have attained, or will soon attain, a PhD in neuroscience, cell/developmental biology or other related fields. Experience in electrophysiology, neurobiology and/or in vivo imaging is preferred.

To Apply:

Please send your CV to mtorii@childrensnational.org and khtorii@childrensnational.org.
