SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Supervisor position is to provide leadership and oversight of the day to day operations of Interventional Radiology (IR), to include effective management of the daily schedule, patient flow/throughput and patient wait times, technologist staffing and assignment of duties and responsibilities, compliance to prescribed imaging protocols and quality control procedures, examination completeness and image quality, activities required to transfer IR studies to Stentor for radiologist interpretation and adherence to all applicable state, federal, regulatory and accreditation standards and guidelines

•Implements developed tactics to attain the goals and objectives stated in the annual IR strategic plan, operating budget and Team Anderson goals. Ensures front line staff understands their role in support of the IR section goals and objectives and how they align with the division and institution strategic goals.
•Understands the implications of diversity in both the workforce and the patients and responds accordingly.
•Responsible for scheduling staff in Kronos and making appropriate adjustments that reflect worked hours and benefit usage. Audits reports to monitor staff compliance to the time and attendance policy.
•Implements staffing plan developed with the IR manager. Informs the IR manager of changes in capacity procedure volumes and/or procedure timing changes, or other issues that impact the devised scheduling template and staffing plan.
•Participates in recruitment of new staff and/or makes candidate recommendations as requested by IR manager.
•Responsible for the orientation of all new staff to include overview of division and institution organization and resources, review of IR clinical operations, appropriate policy and procedure, use of RIS, Stentor/ClinicStation, procedures to report equipment and informatics issues, Joint Commission Compliance, performance improvement, procedure protocols, and image quality expectations. Meeting and documents periodic follow-up during the initial employee probation period to ensure understanding and compliance. Establishes baseline competency skills for each new staff member to evaluate annually.
•Prepares annual performance evaluation as requested by the IR manager to meet timeline of institution single point review process. Communicates specific information to staff members regarding areas of improvement and/or expanded skills to meet criteria for improved rating scores.
•Provides staff coaching, counseling and remedial training as the need is identified to ensure a successful, participating, productive and contributing staff member resulting in improved recruitment and retention of staff in support of institution "Employer of Choice" philosophy. Utilizes the progressive disciplinary process as needed and recommends termination. Works with IR manager and division HR generalist on all actions of final notice and above.
•Discharges consistent and equitable policy and procedure administration across staff that is consistent with management and other supervisors within IR.
•Conducts staff meetings/Team Huddles to communicate and discuss information, concerns, and to obtain input from staff. Encourages staff input ad ideas consistent with a "safe to say what you think" environment. Ensures that staff members are afforded an opportunity to bring issues forward and participate in analysis and resolution in a manner that is perceived/received as safe to the staff. Supports the division's "open door" policy allowing the staff to discuss issues with IR and division senior leadership without retaliation or fear of retribution.
•Prepares employee and/or patient injury forms, reports occurrences to IR manager, division Human Resources coordinator and submits Patient Variance Forms to division CQI coordinator. Notifies IR manager, section chief, and division administrator as appropriate according to significance of occurrence.
•Active participant in CQI, QA and workgroup meeting as delegated.
•Responds to pages, e-mails and voicemails in an expeditious fashion.
•Develops and ensures proper orientation for all technical staff.
•Provides equipment inservices as needed.
•Understands and promotes team participation over individual contribution.
•Provides educational and development opportunities for technical staff.

Budget Responsibilities •Demonstrates an understanding of IR operating and capital equipment budgets. Provides input as requested.
•Ensures maximum reimbursement for technical charges through timely compliance with RIS end of procedure processes and vigilant monitoring of the outstanding procedure report. May delegate daily maintenance of outstanding procedure report.
•Monitors staff productivity and supply usage to maintain/lower expense per procedure.
•Monitors and manages overtime within budget.
•Implements new practices under the direction of the IR manager to maintain/reduce total expense per procedure based on M&O and labor spending.
•Ensures inventory par levels are maintained at an appropriate level and changed as procedure volume requires. Overages are to be returned and the par level reduced, as needed. Under stocking of supplies is to be addressed and filled as needed.
•Works with the Radiologic Engineers to ensure that vendor overtime costs are kept at a minimal level. This is done through appropriate scheduling of down time and ensuring that systems are ready at the time promised to the vendors.

Clinical Operations & Patient Care •Frequent daily monitoring of procedure schedule and patient wait time to ensure timely patient appointments, coordinates requested add-on procedures, ensures STAT and ASAP requests are appropriately managed. Communicates schedule variations to reception and nursing staff.
•Responsible for technologist staffing schedule and room assignment; makes adjustments as to ensure effective and efficient patient care.
•Facilitates efficient patient throughput; decreasing idle equipment, technologist time, and patient waiting time.
•Ensures established or prescribed procedure protocols are consistently followed. Discrepancies are taken to the IR manager for discussion with the section chief.
•Oversees examination completeness and image quality issues; ensuring radiologist expectations are being met.
•Ensures proper staff usage of RIS; begin and end procedures, patient tracking and transition to system down time procedures as required.
•Ensures staff is confirming that patient's identity in accordance with institutional and division policy and procedure.
•Monitors, orders, and adjusts par inventory levels to match procedure volume changes.
•Responsible for shift report generation and communication.
•Identifies operations and imaging service performance improvement opportunities, and through IR manager and section chief, coordinates appropriate action.
•Demonstrates knowledge and ability necessary to asses assigned staff competency to assess data reflective of the patient's age-specific needs, and to provide appropriate care as described in division policy and procedure to patients scheduled for interventional radiology procedures. Staff competencies must be evaluated and documented annually.
•Provides and encourages coordination and communication between all clinical and support staff.
•Frequently audits all patient sub-processes to ensure effective operations resulting in reduced patient delays; reception/arrival, chart preparation, pre-protocol, prep area, QC area, and reading room.
•Ensures radiation safety procedures are maintained for patients, staff, and visitors according to prescribed radiation safety standards.
•Ensures staff is scheduled to attend training opportunities and information sessions regarding proper usage of RIS, radiation safety, interventional radiology safety, infection control procedures, age specific criteria and competency skill testing, and other sessions as deemed appropriate. May track attendance at mandatory employee training and in-services as delegated by the IR manager.
•Reports all equipment malfunctions to the appropriate service, Physics, Informatics, Biomedical, etc. Communicates status to faculty and staff, and follows up to resolution again communicating with faculty and staff.
•Through example, promotes communication and teamwork between radiologist, technologist, nursing and support staff. Promotes and supports teamwork within section and across the division.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Education:Graduate of a Radiology Technology, Ultrasound Technology, or Nuclear Medicine Technology program or an Associates of Applied Science degree.

Required Experience: Two years of experience as a Registered Technologist. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association. Must have one of the following: Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and licensure by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT). Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) and licensure by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT). Registration by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
