Job Details
The Sr. Speech Language Pathologist in the Head & Neck Center at MD Anderson Cancer Center evaluates and treats patients with swallowing, cognitive and or communication deficits of functional and/or organic origin. They impact patient care through the evaluation and treatment of speech, language, cognitive, voice and/or swallowing disorders. They provide comprehensive evaluations of patients, develop and administer the plan of care consistent with area(s) of deficit, initiate referrals and convey recommendations to the appropriate resource/agency, and maintain appropriate records (progress notes, IPOCTR, etc.) of activity and services provided.
Treating cancers that occur in the tiny spaces of the head and neck region require extraordinary skill to achieve the best possible outcome. MD Anderson's Head and Neck Center has a remarkable depth of expertise gained by seeing more than 50,000 patients a year with cancers and benign tumors of the head and neck. We treat head and neck cancers with a diverse team of oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, neuro-radiologists, dental oncologists and plastic surgeons with special training in head and neck cancers. Our team of specialized speech pathologists, audiologists and prosthodontists help maintain or restore speech, swallowing and hearing abilities after treatment.
EDUCATION:
Required: Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three years of oncology hospital experience post clinical fellowship.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Required: Both of the following:
- Certification in Speech-Language Pathology by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA)
- License in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
