Summary

The primary purpose of the Research Nurse position is to conduct assigned operations of research protocols. Coordinate, evaluate and follow patient participation in assigned clinical trials. Assist in the collection and evaluation of data. Under direction, performs protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment, screening, ordering tests, collecting specimens, and monitoring responses; may administer medications. Manage research regulatory paperwork for protocol patient folders.

Research Nurse opportunity in Interventional Radiology. The ideal candidate must be a licensed RN with a minimum of one year nursing experience . **Prefer can didates with clinical research experience, coordination of studies, and clinical trials**

Key Functions

Assesses patients for protocol eligibility through personal interviews and/or medical record review in inpatient and outpatient settings. Coordinates, evaluates and follows the patient's participation in clinical trials.

Retrieves protocol-related data as documented in the medical record and accurately enters it into a computerized database and or handwritten case report form. Evaluates response, treatment response, toxicities, adverse drug reactions and reports appropriately to the Principal Investigator, the Institutional Review Board and the study sponsor.

Performs protocol-specific clinical tasks including patient assessment, screening, ordering tests, collecting specimens, and monitoring responses; may administer medications. Collects and properly identifies special lab specimens as required by protocol by drawing blood and collecting specimens provided by patients, following accepted nursing and laboratory procedures/guidelines. Must be willing and able to perform all aspects of direct patient care for research studies (i.e. blood draws, i.v. starts, vital signs monitoring, patient assessment, contrast administration, etc) as required by research protocol.

Provides patient and family education; may provide professional and ancillary research or Division staff education concerning research protocols as required.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing

EXPERIENCE

Required: One year of registered nursing experience.

Preferred: One year of Research nurse experience; clinical trials experience.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area. Certification in Oncology or Specialty practice area
