Assistant Professor in the Microbiome of Animal Health and Disease

The Department of Pathobiology (https://vetmed.illinois.edu/college-organization/pathobiology) at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, announces a 9-month, tenure-track, Assistant Professor position in Microbiome of Animal Health and Disease. This position is available beginning on or about August 16, 2020. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. A generous and competitive start-up package will be provided.

Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability or potential to establish and maintain a well-funded extramural research program, contribute to teaching at the graduate and professional levels, and collaborate with a vibrant community of basic and clinical scientists. Candidates must hold a PhD, DVM, MD or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline. Candidates with a DVM, MD, or equivalent degree are especially encouraged to apply. Demonstrated productivity in mechanistic microbiome research is required. Applicants with an innovative record of accomplishment in fields related to microbiome-host interactions, microbiome impacts on host acquired or innate immunity, and/or antimicrobial resistance are highly desirable. Expertise in microbial whole genome sequence (WGS) analysis and bioinformatics will be viewed as an asset.

The Department of Pathobiology encompasses a unique multidisciplinary blend of expertise in bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic pathogenesis, immunology, and epidemiology that facilitates integrated approaches and enables vital discoveries in all aspects of disease emergence, mechanisms of host-pathogen interactions, and novel approaches to disease prevention.

The College of Veterinary Medicine features modern research and animal care facilities. The Veterinary Teaching Hospital has an annual caseload of more than 20,000 animals and provides a source of naturally occurring animal disease for clinical trials. The 80-acre Veterinary Medicine Research Farm, located less than two miles from the college, has extensive facilities for agricultural animal research.
