Graduate Research Assistant (Statistics) / PROTECT Data Manager

This full time post is available from 1 November 2019 on a fixed term basis until 31 May 2020.  

Summary of the role
The College wishes to recruit a Graduate Research Assistant to support the work of Dr Anne Corbett. This commercially funded post is available immediately. You will support two main research projects. You will act as Data Manager and provide statistical input for analysis of a sub-set of data arising from a commercial clinical trial funded by Novo Nordisk. The second is to act as a junior study statistician and Data Manager for the innovative PROTECT study, an online study of ageing and cognition that is running at the University of Exeter. 

The post will be an integral member of the dynamic PROTECT Research Team. The role will include working with large research datasets to support two major projects. Day-to-day work will include preparing datasets, running preliminary analysis and preparing regular reports to our commercial client. It will also involve taking responsibility for monitoring and handling the research dataset for the PROTECT study. This will include preparing datasets and contributing to data analysis, both in-house and with our collaborators. The post offers the opportunity to build on your own ideas for data analysis and research, and to contribute to the onward development of the PROTECT study. 

About you
You will be able to handle, prepare and analyse large quantitative research datasets, present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare communications for external bodies.

Applicants will be educated to first degree level or possess an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study or equivalent experience and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants will have good working knowledge of at least one commonly used statistical analysis programme and will show high levels of competence working with research data.
