Description

We invite applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Research Scholar in the laboratory of Dr. Abhishek Shrivastava in the Biodesign Institute Center for Fundamental and Applied Microbiomics at Arizona State University. As a Postdoctoral Research Scholar, you will study factors that shape the spatial organization of human microbial communities. The experiments you assist with will combine concepts of biology and physics. Curiosity and hypothesis driven studies of host associated biofilms, bacterial motility mechanisms, chemotaxis, protein secretion, and molecular motors will form a subset of the project. This project is aimed to improve fundamental understanding of the microbiome and the reasons for its correlation with diseases such as oral cancer and periodontitis. Essential Duties:

  • Use Microscopy, Image Analysis, Microbiology, and Molecular Biology methods for research and will report findings
  • Supervise Graduate students
  • Data analyses 
  • Report/manuscript preparation
  • Assist with the writing of research proposals
  • Coordinate among team members and actively participate in journal clubs and lab meetings

Required Qualifications:

Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. (within the past four years) in Quantitative Biology, Biophysics, Microbiology or Cell Biology.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Coding skills with MATLAB or Python
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Demonstrate motivation and aptitude for learning and taking on new challenges.
  • The ability to clearly and carefully document results in the scientific literature is desired.
  • The candidate must be able to work effectively in a team environment and balance work on few different projects.
