The Department of Animal Sciences at Auburn University (www.auburn.edu) is seeking applications for the position of Assistant Professor – Animal Nutrition.  The position is a nine-month, tenure track at the rank of assistant professor.  The successful candidate will have a 60% research and 40% instruction appointment. The projected start date is August 16, 2020.

Responsibilities:  The individual will be expected to develop a strong research and instructional program in animal nutrition focused on protein/amino acid metabolism with an emphasis on food-animal production efficiency and animal health. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a nationally and internationally recognized, extramurally funded research program on proteins/amino acids in nutritional, metabolic and physiological processes within food animals at cellular, organ/tissue and/or whole-animal levels of organization. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other scientists within, but not limited to the Colleges of Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine and/or Human Sciences in research on protein/amino nutrition and metabolism that directly impacts efficiency of food-animal production systems and animal health. The incumbent will teach an undergraduate-level foundation course in animal nutrition and metabolism, and a graduate-level course in protein/amino metabolism. A strong graduate-student and postdoctoral training program is expected.

Qualifications:  Minimum qualifications include: 1) an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Animal Science or related field at the time employment begins; 2) experience and training in modern research tools of protein/amino acid nutrition and metabolism, and ability to independently develop and conduct research in this area; 3) demonstrated or potential ability to teach college-level classes and mentor graduate students; 4) documented evidence of extramural funding efforts and publication in refereed scientific journals; 5) proficiency in English, including strong written and oral communication skills. The candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired qualifications:  Postdoctoral experience and record of successful grantmanship.
