Middle Tennessee State University, College of Basic & Applied Sciences, seeks applications for an innovative leader to chair the Department of Biology (#103005).  Applicants must be eligible to meet the criteria for the rank of professor.  Expedited tenure upon appointment possible.  Start date for the position is August 1, 2020.

The Department has grown over 40% in the last decade and is now home to nearly 1000 students within the BS, MS, and PhD programs and is the largest funder of undergraduate research at the University.  The Department is housed in a state of the art facility opened in 2014.

Excellence in teaching, research/creative activity and service is expected.  The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in communication, sound financial management and a history of creating vision for an organization.  A track record of successful, extramurally-funded research and the ability to foster and grow the current successful research activity in the department will be important attributes of the Chair.

The Chair is expected to teach periodically and support the continued success of the MS Biology program and the interdisciplinary PhD programs in Molecular Biosciences, Math and Science Education and Computational Science.  Biology faculty also contribute to collaborative programs in Forensic Science, Fermentation Science and MS in Professional Science.

The candidate is expected to possess the strong academic leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to lead approximately 40 faculty whose interest and expertise range from cell and molecular biology to ecology and evolution.  Research in the Department is currently funded by NIH, NSF, USDA, USGS and other state/federal partners.

Job review date for optimal consideration is 10/30/2019.
