As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

Germany’s largest research organization, the Helmholtz Association, launches Helmholtz AI: This dedicated, interdisciplinary platform will compile, develop, foster and promote applied artificial intelligence (AI) methods nationwide for all Helmholtz centers in collaboration with its external and university partners. Its Central Unit is currently being implemented in Munich, one of Germany's major hubs for applied AI, at the Helmholtz Center Munich.

Young Investigator Group Leader (f/m/d) in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning 2019/0353

Your opportunity

Potential focus areas could be algorithmic machine learning, big data integration, data assimilation and model-based machine learning, explainable AI and computer vision. We're interested in receiving applications from people with a PhD and postdoc experience who want to address important applied AI/ML questions in our creative, multidisciplinary and collaborative environment. Successful candidates are expected to take this opportunity to actively shape the innovative and rapidly developing research field of AI/ML in Munich and beyond and should establish themselves as leading focal points in the field. 

In order to encourage bold and unconventional ideas, we prize the ambitious and vigorous pursuit of new approaches over incremental successes.

Your profile

Young Investigator Group Leader must hold a PhD, have international experience, should be highly motivated and innovative with an outstanding track-record in the field of machine learning, causal inference, computer vision, artificial intelligence, data science and/or data analytics. Demonstrable leadership experience, e.g. group supervision and management, including successful raising of extramural research funding, as well as business, entrepreneurial start-up and industry experience are considered an asset.

Remuneration and benefits are in accordance with the collective salary agreement for the public service (TV EntgO Bund).
