The Department of Computer Science (www.inf.ethz.ch) at ETH Zurich invites applications for assistant professorships (tenure track) with focus on the following broad areas within computer science. For each area, several possible examples (not exhaustive) of expertise are provided.

  • Data Science / Machine Learning (deep learning, optimization for machine learning, theory of deep learning, trustworthy learning systems, reinforcement learning)
  • Data Science / Data Management (databases, data management, data cleaning, data wrangling,  distributed data processing, formal aspects of data management, database systems, streaming, hardware acceleration for data processing)

Please apply for only one of the above areas as all applications will be jointly reviewed.

Applicants should be strongly rooted in computer science, have internationally recognized expertise in their field and pursue research at the forefront of computer science. Successful candidates should establish and lead a strong research programme. They will be expected to supervise doctoral students and teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses (in German or in English). Collaboration in research and teaching is expected both within the department and with other groups of ETH Zurich and related institutions.

Assistant professorships have been established to promote the careers of younger scientists. ETH Zurich implements a tenure track system equivalent to other top international universities.

Please apply online: www.facultyaffairs.ethz.ch

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a list of publications with the three most important ones marked, a statement of future research and teaching interests, the names of three references, and a description of the three most important achievements. The letter of application should be addressed to the President of ETH Zurich, Prof. Dr. Joël Mesot. The closing date for applications is 30 November 2019. ETH Zurich is an equal opportunity and family friendly employer, strives to increase the number of women professors, and is responsive to the needs of dual career couples.
