Applications will be accepted until 10/31/2019.

The Notre Dame Integrated Imaging Facility (NDIIF) provides an integrated suite of sophisticated microscopes and imaging stations that enable expert users to attack the most complex modern research problems and, equally important, resident professional staff, including technicians and research specialists, to guide the non-expert users. Come join us to be part of this important research resource!

The optical imaging core, one pillar of the NDIIF, is integral to many scientific discoveries in the College of Science and the College of Engineering. The Optical Microscopy Program Director should be a highly motivated scientist with experience in biological microscopy who can collaborate with various researchers across the campus in effort to generate business and publications.

The director will be expected to guide/aid in complex modern microscopy experiments, perform critical imaging techniques, manage the microscopes and collaborate with a wide range of researchers using a suite of sophisticated microscopes.

The successful candidate will exhibit personal communication skills that promote excellent teamwork and positive customer relations. Excellent writing skills are needed as the position entails production of various training documents and grant proposals.

This position will also carry out all laboratory procedures in the Optical Microscopy core facility. The candidate will conduct research, both independently and in collaboration with other investigators.

The Optical Microscopy Program Manager will oversee the facility, develop protocols, methods, and procedures, maintain instrumentation, document facility use, and present research findings.

The Program Manager will also train researchers to operate the Optical Microscopes.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. is required as well as a strong publication record and considerable experience operating fluorescence microscopes.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with some or all of the current optical microscopes in the core is helpful. This includes two laser scanning confocal microscopes, a deconvolution microscope, a spinning disk confocal microscope, and a new dual-purpose spinning disk confocal and diSPIM lightsheet microscope that will be installed in Fall 2019.
