Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Immunology or Toxicology

The Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences at The University of Massachusetts Lowell is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and students and seeks a full time, tenure-track faculty member with expertise and research interests in Immunology or Toxicology, with an emphasis in animal models of diseases. The candidate will be appointed at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level, depending upon qualifications.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent basic or translational research program in the fields of innate or adaptive immune response and sequelae such as chronic inflammation resulting from environmental or xenobiotic exposures, immuno-metabolism, and molecular immunodiagnostics. Research programs in proteomics and, epigenetics are also welcomed. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous research program that helps to support the university’s new, state-of-the-art vivarium and imaging center.

The Department of Biomedical and Nutritional Sciences is located within the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences at UMass Lowell. The Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences is a dynamic, growing college that prepares professionals and scientists in a wide range of health science fields including applied, clinical, and translational areas. A large research program, vibrant community partnerships, and engagement opportunities enrich and support our educational programs. Candidates whose research will facilitate collaborations with faculty in the departments of Biological Sciences and Biomedical Engineering will be favored.

Candidates should have a successful record of accomplishment of extramural funding and show significant potential to garner continued funding to support their research programs. The candidate should show ability to work with multidisciplinary researchers within the department and the university; and desire to work as a team. The successful candidate will be expected to develop, and or continue depending upon rank, a vigorous research program.

The applicant should also be recognized for teaching excellence, scholarly productivity, ability to work with diverse populations, and excellent oral and written communication skills in English. The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses will be considered. The individual will also be engaged in service to the Department, College, and University as required.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • A PhD in Immunology, Toxicology, or other related Biomedical Sciences fields is required. (Must have PhD at the time of application)
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Strong record of research and publication
  • Evidence of current funding and ability to develop an independent research program and secure additional extramural funding

Other Considerations:

  • Postdoctoral experience required
  • Discipline specific teaching experience preferred
  • Assistant Professor candidates must have a research program with a strong likelihood of federal funding
  • Associate/Full Professor candidates must have a strong record of research in a currently tenured position with current active extramural/federal research support
  • Experience in fostering interdisciplinary research initiatives
