Assistant Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The School of Science at Penn State Behrend invites applications for tenure-track, Assistant Professor position to begin Fall 2020. Candidates will be part of the biology department and the new Center for Biomedical Research and Innovation, a clinical research collaboration with the Magee-Womens Research Institute in Erie (MWRI-Erie). We seek faculty members in the life sciences with research interests in molecular approaches to human health and disease, as well as teaching interests in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology or related disciplines. Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and research, hold a Ph.D. at the time of appointment and have at least one year of post-doctoral research experience. Expectations: 1) teach courses in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related areas; 2) establish an active research program that involves students and is supported by external funding. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to engage in collaborative research with clinical investigators at MWRI-Erie in areas of mutual interest including, but not limited to, reproductive development, pregnancy and newborn medicine, infectious diseases, reproductive endocrinology, infertility and women's cancers.

Penn State Behrend is a four-year undergraduate and graduate college of The Pennsylvania State University with 4,700 students in four schools; science, engineering, business and humanities and social science. The School of Science offers B.S. degrees in biology, chemistry, mathematics, mathematics education, nursing, physics, and environmental science. Available instrumentation includes confocal and environmental scanning electron microscopes, real-time PCR, LCMS, NMR, and GCMS plus access to Penn State University's extensive life sciences core facilities located at the University Park campus, as well as clinical facilities associated with the Magee-Womens Research Institute Erie.

Erie Pennsylvania, a metropolitan area of 280,000 residents, is a major service, tourism, medical, and industrial center on Lake Erie's Presque Isle Bay and is located two hours from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. The region offers many cultural, sports, and recreational resources, as well as modest living costs and affordable housing.
