The Laboratory of Clinical Immunology and Microbiology (LCIM), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is soliciting applications for a position as a clinical fellow in the area of neuroimmunological diseases. 

LCIM conducts clinical and basic science research into human immunologic, inflammatory, and infectious diseases with an aim to develop novel diagnostic methods and therapeutic approaches to manage and, ideally, cure patients with these diseases.

The goal of the Neuroimmunological Diseases Section (NDS) is to gain understanding of the mechanisms that cause central nervous system (CNS) injury and those that have neuroprotective functions and mediate repair, in order to develop effective therapies for human neuroimmunological diseases, especially multiple sclerosis (MS).

The neuroimmunology clinical fellow position is a two- to four-year opportunity open to candidates who have completed three years of neurology residency training in the United States or Canada and are eligible for American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology certification in the neurology specialty. The fellow will receive comprehensive, multidisciplinary clinical training in neuroimmunological and neuroinfectious diseases, including CNS complications of immunocompromised host and genetic disorders of the immune system. Depending on the research interest, the fellow will receive training in statistics, bioinformatics, genomics, clinical trial methodology, development of new outcomes measures using digital technologies, MRI analyses, and wet-laboratory research (flow cytometry, proteomic assays, molecular biology, etc.). By attending multidisciplinary clinical rounds and weekly clinical and research conferences, fellows gain comprehensive training in the basic and clinical immunology and pathophysiology of neuroimmunological diseases.
