NIH-funded postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated individual interested in autoimmune disease, microbiome, metabolomics, and immune tolerance.
This position is for a highly motivated individual with good communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of scientists.
He/she will work under limited supervision with expectations to carry out complex research assignments. The selected candidate will also present data at departmental seminars and scientific meetings, assist with manuscript preparation, contribute preliminary data for grant proposals, and assist with training of junior members of the lab. The candidate will maintain familiarity with current literature, contribute to the experimental design, and execute designed experiments for the multiple project.
Studies will include traditional biochemical and molecular assays, ChIP-Seq, MiSeq Illumina gene expression, RNA-Seq, bioinformatics, and classical immunological analyses utilizing in vitro assays and whole animal models—including immune cell isolation, characterization, and functional determination, multicolor flow cytometry, and protein-protein determinations.
Central to this laboratory’s mission is an in-depth exploration of the basic mechanisms of immunology with a focus on translational medicine. The long-term goal for the post-doctoral fellow is to generate several high-impact manuscripts and competitively apply for extramural funding towards the goal of an independent research career.
Qualifications: Ph.D. (required) with strong interests in both mechanistic and translational aspects of work. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment. Effective communication skills, self-motivation, and record of publication.
Salary/Benefits: Competitive salary commensurate with experience and institutional guidelines.
To Apply: Interested applicants should send a current CV, contact information for three references and a brief statement on their previous research experience and future goals to Dr. Susan C. McKarns, Department of Surgery and the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, University of Missouri School of Medicine at Columbia, MO (mckarnss@health.missouri.edu).
