ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Systems Neurobiology). A tenure-track position is available for fall 2020 in the Department of Natural Sciences. The department offers an interdisciplinary undergraduate major in Natural Science with the opportunity for majors to complete a concentration within the major in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Organismal Biology or Chemical Sciences. The Department also participates in several interdisciplinary programs including the Integrative Neurosciences major. Recent graduates of the Natural Science and Integrative Neuroscience majors have pursued careers in health professions such as medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy and optometry as well as disciplinary graduate programs e.g. in chemistry, neuroscience, and forensic science. Our mission is to provide undergraduates with the best possible education in lecture and laboratory classes and in faculty-mentored research.  Our location in Manhattan provides many opportunities for collaborative research.

The successful candidate is expected to develop an active research program in the field of systems neurobiology, which could include a focus on the analytical approach to neuroscience data. The candidate would be expected to include mentoring of undergraduates at the center of that research program. Candidates must be excellent teachers and must evince a strong commitment to mentoring undergraduate researchers.  The department is seeking a candidate who is interested in pedagogical strategies in the sciences. Teaching responsibilities could include neuroscience and data analysis courses as well as core science courses for non-majors. The applicant must have a PhD in a field appropriate for the position. Teaching experience and post-doctoral experience are essential.

Fordham University is an independent, Catholic University in the Jesuit tradition that welcomes applications from men and women of all backgrounds.  Our student body is diverse and we expect to grow more diverse.  We are especially interested in candidates with experience and commitment to teaching and mentoring students from a range of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.  Women and people of color are especially encouraged to apply. Fordham is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer
