Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences at Arkansas State University invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor within the theme of Disease in Nature. Successful candidates will have a Ph.D. in Biology or related discipline, an established research record that includes publications in high-quality journals, evidence of the ability to maintain or develop an independent research program, and a commitment to excellence in teaching. Post-doctoral experience is preferred but not required.

Of particular interest are candidates who have developed research programs related to any of the following: pathogenic diseases; epidemiology of diseases in natural systems; animal (including human) or plant microbiome; pathogen-host or symbiont-host interactions; plant pathogens, forest diseases, or invasive insects; or ecosystem stressors that influence disease. We also encourage applications from candidates who have developed exceptional research programs outside of the areas specified, but still within the Disease in Nature theme.

Interest and ability in teaching undergraduate courses that consist largely of pre-professional students, and wildlife and conservation students secondarily, is required. These courses may include Biology of Animals, Plants, and/or Cell (series of introductory courses for majors); Cell Signaling; Epidemiology; Evolution; Neurobiology (w/ Lab); Mammalogy (w/ Lab); Histology; Virology; Principles and Practices of Forest Resources; and Principles of Ecology. The interest in developing new courses to strengthen our offerings around the Disease in Nature theme is also encouraged.

Several avenues for collaborative research at A-State are available with faculty in the Department of Biological Sciences, the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, the Ecotoxicology Research Facility, the Arkansas Center for Biodiversity Collections, and the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (Jonesboro).
