The Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center is searching for a postdoctoral scholar in medical physics. This position will focus on creating and implementing a novel approach to better evaluate the quality of target delineation (contouring) in radiation oncology. This project builds off our teams experience with an interactive contouring website (eContour.org), and overall this project is part of a larger initiative that seeks to improve the quality of care among practicing radiation oncologists. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team which includes analysts, programmers, graduate students and postdocs. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in physics, medical physics, computer science, or another closely related field. Candidates should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a strong background in programming (Matlab, Python, and Java). Prior experience in radiation oncology is not necessary, and candidates with excellent doctoral training in any specialty are encouraged to apply. Our department has been quite successful in offering post-doctoral fellows an alternative pathway (https://www.campep.org/ProspectiveApplicants.asp) to clinical medical physics residency position, the prerequisite for becoming a board certified medical physicist. Salary is according UCSD standards/regulations and includes benefits. Interested applicants should submit their CV, a cover letter, and list of three references to Dr. James Murphy (j2murphy@ucsd.edu).
