Tenure-track Faculty Position in Neuroscience/Glial Biology
Virginia Tech Carilion Fralin Biomedical Research Institute

 

The Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI) at Virginia Tech Carilion (VTC - https://research.vtc.vt.edu/) is recruiting a tenure track faculty member for its Center for Glial Biology Research (CGBR - https://www.glialcenter.org/). Applicants will be considered at the assistant, associate or full professor level with their tenure track faculty appointment in Virginia Tech's School of Neuroscience (SoN). The successful applicant is expected to have a demonstrated record of impactful research in glial biology with a strong potential of developing an innovative research program that already has or will attract substantial and sustained extramural funding. Areas of particular interest include glial-neuronal and glio-vascular interactions, role of glia in brain development, synaptogenesis, and/or the role of glia in disease. Applicants should have an earned doctorate and a demonstrated record of accomplishment of research productivity. The successful applicant will be expected to establish and maintain a high-quality, extramurally-funded research program and participate in research mentoring of undergraduate, graduate, and medical students with some teaching in graduate programs.

The FBRI at VTC is located in Roanoke, Virginia and is a public-private partnership between Virginia's leading research-intensive university – Virginia Tech – and a major health care system – Carilion Clinic. The research institute currently houses 30 independent research groups with over 300 research and support team members and over $100M in extramural funding. The School of Neuroscience is one of 10 academic units in the College of Science and principally located in Blacksburg VA. With 22 faculty members that serves over 750 undergraduate students majoring in neuroscience.

Prospective faculty members can draw from an outstanding and diverse pool of graduate and medical students to work with them in their research program. Virginia Tech has over 6,000 graduate students and offers graduate programs in multiple biomedically-related disciplines, particularly the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Heath (http://www.tbmh.vt.edu) and the Molecular and Cellular Biology (https://www.mcb.vt.edu) Ph.D. programs that each offer a neuroscience track as well as one of the nation's most research-intensive medical schools where all students carry out four years of research. Applicants will have access to unique research facilities on both the Roanoke and Blacksburg campuses.
