The Department Head of Biomedical Sciences will provide visionary leadership for over 40 faculty with research and teaching specialties in neurobiology, reproductive biology, endocrinology, general physiology and pathology in humans and animals. Research programs within the department cover a diverse range of topics with approaches spanning from the single-molecule level to whole-animal physiology in invertebrate models, rodents and large animals and is supported by extensive extramural support from Federal agencies, foundations and industry sponsors. As far as possible, research programs are integrated with teaching missions that serve a large number of undergraduate, graduate and professional veterinary students within the Department and across campus. The next Department Head of Biomedical Sciences will facilitate ongoing and burgeoning initiatives including the establishment of a College-wide undergraduate major, establishment of medical school curriculum to support a collaborative MD program with the University of Colorado, deployment and commercialization of virtual reality approaches to anatomy education, and increasing participation in, and oversight of, extensive outreach programs.
