UCSF is seeking visionary scientists to join our vibrant and collaborative discovery research community. This open-rank, tenure-track faculty position is part of a multiyear initiative to foster equity and inclusion in biomedical research and to promote the success of our diverse student population. Candidates are expected to hold a Ph.D., to have demonstrated significant research accomplishment and potential, and to be committed to the mentorship of students – particularly students from groups that are underrepresented in biomedical science.

Candidates working in all areas of fundamental biomedical science are welcome to apply. Depending on the area of research specialization, the successful candidate can choose to be appointed in any of our basic science departments (Anatomy, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, Cell and Tissue Biology, Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, Microbiology and Immunology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and Physiology).

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a dynamic and interactive research program, to join one of our top-ranked interdisciplinary graduate programs (see https://graduate.ucsf.edu/list-programs), to excel at graduate teaching and inclusive mentoring, and to participate in activities that promote equity and inclusion. Service and teaching expectations are comparable to those of any other tenure-track faculty position. Faculty appointment will be made at a professorial rank commensurate with current academic standing. UCSF offers competitive salaries, research set-up funds, and recruitment allowances, and has numerous opportunities for faculty development and further training in mentorship.

Applications must be submitted online and include the following documents as a single PDF: (1) cover letter; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) 1-page summary of research accomplishments; (4) 2-page description of future research plans; and 5) a statement of contributions to equity, diversity, and inclusion with particular attention to formal and informal mentoring activities. Copies of major publications may be included. Applicants should request three to five letters of recommendation. As part of the application process, please select one or more preferred departments in your online application. Note: The academic home department will be determined based on best fit for final candidate. Review will begin on November 1, 2019 and continue until the position is filled. Please direct inquiries about the position and suggestions of potential candidates to basicsciencesrecruit@ucsf.edu.

As an institution that values diversity, UC San Francisco especially encourages application from minorities, women, and individuals with a commitment to mentoring underrepresented groups in the sciences.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.

Please apply online at: https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/JPF02694. Please note that this Department-wide search is administered by the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics.
