The Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of South Carolina (UofSC) School of Medicine in Columbia, SC invites applications from candidates with outstanding teaching credentials to contribute to medical and graduate instruction in pharmacology, physiology, and neuroscience-based courses. New faculty members will join a highly successful, collegial, and collaborative neuroscience-focused department at a Carnegie R1 research university that has achieved national prominence in research, education, and community engagement.  The successful candidate is expected to participate in medical and graduate teaching as an instructor and/or course director, as well as support innovative changes in our medical curriculum.  Candidates will also have the opportunity to participate in departmental research programs that focus on studying the molecular or cellular mechanisms underlying physiological processes, complex behaviors, or drug action.  Candidates that can aid in expanding UofSC’s research prominence in the neural basis and treatment of neuropsychiatric, neurological, and stress-related disorders using preclinical models are encouraged to apply (see http://ppn.med.sc.edu/).  This is a non-tenure track appointment, with rank open commensurate with experience and necessary credentials.

Applicants at the Assistant Professor rank must have a PhD, MD or equivalent degree in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Physiology, or a related biomedical field, and at least one semester of didactic graduate or medical teaching experience in biomedical related courses by the beginning date of employment. Successful candidates are expected to have evidence of potential for excellence in graduate and medical education and 6 months of postdoctoral experience, plus potential for success in extramural research funding, potential for scholarly productivity, and research interests that enhance the departmental programs targeting neurobiological disorders.  Highly qualified applicants seeking appointment at the Associate Professor rank must have three years of experience as an Assistant Professor, expertise in teaching graduate and medical students, and have experience as a course director.  Applicants seeking appointment at the Professor level must have three years of experience as an Associate Professor (with a total of 9 years of experience beyond the PhD), expertise in teaching and mentoring graduate and medical students, experience in curricular development and innovation, a substantial record of publications and extramural research funding, and a national/international reputation in their field of research or in biomedical education.

Qualified applicants must submit electronic files (PDF or Word) that include a cover letter summarizing qualifications, curriculum vitae and publication list, a teaching portfolio, plus a statement of educational experience, philosophy, and professional goals, and contact information for four references via USCJobs at http://uscjobs.sc.edu/postings/68347. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.
