Postdoctoral Fellow in Aquatic Microbial Ecology
One of the main goals of the postdoctoral position is to understand and characterize microbial associations and interactions in aquatic environments. To do this, we will use state of the art technologies through SciLifeLab. The project has ample opportunities to establish collaborations and develop and test research hypothesis about microbial ecology, genetic population structures, test models of species interactions and directed evolution.
The postdoctoral researcher will be based at SciLifeLab (www.scilifelab.se) where the working atmosphere is international with English as the working language. Moreover, the postdoctoral position will be associated with the biodiversity project “Getting a grip on the microbiota controlling greenhouse gas emissions from freshwaters”. This biodiversity project involves a group of talented scientists working in Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and University of Madison, Wisconsin. In the project, we combined existing and currently collected data on chemical characteristics and microbial processes in 40 water bodies from Europe and North America, cultivated model communities and single cell isolation approaches. The project aims at understanding functional variation within and among boreal lakes and link specific processes involved in GHG turnover to environmental conditions.
