Position Summary
The City of Hope National Medical Center is looking for a highly motivated and creative Postdoctoral Fellow to work in the development and evaluation of HSV1 oncolytic virus for treating brain tumor within the Caligiuri-Yu laboratory. Postdoctoral Fellowships are 1-year appointments with the potential for renewal. The expectation is for a 3-year opportunitywith the possibility to extend.You will have the unique possibility to drive research towards a novel cancer therapy at the interface of science and translation.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Devise, plan, document and advance translational projects in brain tumor immunotherapy using our oncolytic HSV1 platforms,
  • Perform molecular engineering of viruses for application in brain tumor immunotherapy, characterization of recombinant viruses including propagation and purification as well as animal experiments,
  • Work in close collaboration with other team members and external partners from academia and industry, including presentation of progress internally or externally.
  • Train and supervise technical staff.


Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • PhD with a strong background and profound knowledge in either virology, cancer immunology or immunotherapy,
  • Previous experience in working with animal models of human cancers.
  • Evidence of scientific rigor and excellence as documented by peer-reviewed publications or presentations at scientific meetings,
  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and fluency in English, both spoken and written;

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Literature knowledge of antiviral or anti-tumoral immune responses, cancer therapy, virology as well as hands on experience with animal models, are a strong plus.
