Tier II Canada Research Chair in Immuno-Cardiology

The Departments of Cardiac Sciences and Physiology & Pharmacology, Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta invite applications for a Tier II Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Immuno-Cardiology.  The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) and will be nominated for a CRC Tier II Chair. 

This will be an appointment for an outstanding basic/translational scientist to lead a program in cardiovascular research within a multidisciplinary research environment.  The successful candidate will have 80% protected time for academic research.  Academic opportunities include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  This is an excellent opportunity for an independent researcher who wishes to collaborate with a productive, multidisciplinary group of clinical and basic investigators. Laboratory space and associated resources for establishing a research program will be provided by the Libin Institute of Alberta. Start-up funds will be made available and commensurate with the research track record and vision of the candidate for the research program.  

Qualifications include a PhD with expertise in immunology and cardiovascular science.  The successful candidate will be an early-career investigator with a proven record of excellence and leadership in research at the discovery and/or translational science level as demonstrated by accomplishment in basic science and translational research including a sufficient record of research publication in high-impact peer reviewed journals as well as appropriate success with research operating grants or salary awards. The applicant will hold expertise in advanced live cell/tissue imaging technologies within cardiovascular models of human disease and in so doing, provide unique support and high impact opportunities for other translational scientists within CSM.  Publications in the field of immune-cardiology will be important to be strongly considered.  The candidate must be capable of high level collaboration between the Libin Cardiovascular Institute and the Snyder Institute for Chronic Disease.

The successful candidate will be part of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta. Current membership includes over 150 principal investigators and their research teams with a broad range of interests in Cardiovascular Medicine. The Institute is housed within the Cumming School of Medicine.

Tier II Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Candidates who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and who have had career breaks, such as maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc., may have their eligibility for a Tier II Chair assessed through the program’s Tier II justification process. In cases where the candidate has more than one PhD, or have obtained a professional degree (MD, DVM, etc) in addition to a PhD, the first of these degrees is used in the 10-year qualification.
