Assistant Professor of Biology (Physiology or Genetics)

The Department of Biology at Middle Tennessee State University seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member (#103190) at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of physiology or genetics. Start date for this position is August 1, 2020.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent research that uses molecular techniques and mentor students (undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D.) at a level that will gain national/international recognition. Teaching responsibilities may include courses in General Biology, Physiology, Genetics, and/or Biotechnology. The ability to contribute to graduate level courses in the applicant's area of expertise is also desirable.

The Department of Biology is housed in a newly constructed 250,000 square foot science building that includes a greenhouse, a small animal research facility, and significant laboratory space (Department of Biology information: http://mtsu.edu/biology). The department hosts both a Master’s program in Biology and an Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Molecular Biosciences (https://www.mtsu.edu/programs/molecular-biosciences-phd/index.php). The faculty hire will be expected to develop an externally funded research program at a level appropriate to mentor Master's and Doctoral graduate students.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physiology, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology or other relevant field.

Applicants with post-doctoral research experience, a strong publication record in impactful peer-reviewed journals, and a level of grant or fellowship funding that reflects high productivity commensurate with the applicant's current career stage are strongly preferred.

Initial review of applications will commence on October 31, 2019 and will continue until the position is filled. Interested applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three references, statement of teaching interests, and descriptions of their current research and planned research program.
