Responsibilities: 

The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be expected to conduct research and provide technical assistance to the PI, students, and trainees on study design, analysis of high-throughput sequencing data from bacteria, microbial communities and other miscellaneous problems related to molecular epidemiology. This position will be responsible for generation, collection and organization of data for research activities, which may involve driving to farms and collecting different types of samples for research purposes; Collaborating with the PI in the generation and testing of research hypotheses and data analysis, writing of papers, grants, and reports, and preparation of presentations and lectures; Attending, participating, or presenting at laboratory meetings, seminars, graduate and undergraduate lectures, and conferences as needed; Performing miscellaneous office duties as assigned by the PIs including, but not limited to, ordering supplies and helping the PIs in the organization and coordination of meetings and projects; Maintaining frequent communication with other faculty and collaborators including students, veterinarians and farmers. Work hours will typically occur between normal business hours but may occasionally require early morning and late evening travel. This position is available for one year with the possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. The successful completion of a university background check is required.

Minimum Requirements: 

Ph.D. degree. The successful candidate will have a strong background in research in molecular epidemiology, molecular biology, microbiology, and/or Preventive veterinary medicine, excellent oral/written communication, leadership and interpersonal ability to work in teams.

Preferred requirements:

A highly motivated and creative scientist that is interested in the application of advanced molecular diagnostic and genotyping techniques using next-generation sequencing data in surveillance, prevention, and control of infectious diseases. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated experience with bacterial culture and isolation, molecular biology techniques, and chicken handling and sampling, familiarity with next-generation sequencing technologies, programing language, statistical (R or SAS) and bioinformatics tools in a UNIX operating system is a plus.
