A postdoctoral position to study innate immune signaling pathways and mechanisms that control inflammatory diseases is immediately available in the Hans Haecker Lab in the Division of Microbiology & Immunology, University of Utah Department of Pathology.
In previous work we identified the protein ABIN1/TNIP1 as essential control mechanism for protection from Toll-like receptor-mediated inflammatory diseases (SLE, psoriasis), and more detailed work demonstrated a key function of specific monocytes in organ injury (PNAS 2009, PMID: 22011580; PNAS 2016, PMID: 27671649, JCI 2019, PMID: 31033479).
The goal of this project is to reveal the mechanism of how ABIN1 controls gene regulation and protects from end-organ damage. The long-term goal is to identify novel targets for therapeutic intervention.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The project provides an ideal opportunity for fellows who are interested in (i) innate immunity and inflammation regulation, (ii) molecular mechanisms of signal transduction, applying cutting edge protein identification/ interaction analyses, such as quantitative MS and (ii) regulation of innate immune effector functions, in vitro and in vivo.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should hold a PhD and/or MD degree in Biochemistry, Biology or Immunology. The ideal candidate should have expertise in molecular biology and protein analysis and, preferably, experience with animal (mouse) models and in vivo experimentation.
