Summary:

The Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) invites applications for a full-time (9-month) Instructor position in the Biological Sciences beginning Fall 2020. The successful candidate will teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses and labs, advise students, and direct honors theses. Average teaching load is 7-8 courses per year.

The Wilkes Honors College (WHC), which opened in 1999, is a highly selective liberal arts college within a state university, located on FAU’s MacArthur Campus in the coastal town of Jupiter, Florida. The campus is an international hub for scientific research, and is host to the world-renowned research institutes Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and Scripps Research Institute Florida, along with FAU’s Brain Institute. In addition, FAU’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute is located in nearby Fort Pierce.

The WHC’s four-year curriculum is centered on the traditional disciplines in the liberal arts and sciences, with an emphasis on critical thinking, independent study, community-based internships, and cross-disciplinary programs. Currently, the WHC enrolls 500 honors students and has 41 full-time honors faculty members. As part of the University’s ambitious strategic plan, the WHC will increase the size of its student body and grow its faculty over the next five years. See www.honorscollege.edu

The committee will view favorably potential for collaboration in the interdisciplinary teaching activities of the college, experience in advising and mentoring undergraduate students, and a commitment to fostering diversity on the campus.
