Postdoctoral Fellow

Introduction:

An NIH-funded POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW position is currently available to investigate molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration in the laboratory of Dr. Maggie Pearce at University of the Sciences (USciences) in University City, Philadelphia, PA. The Pearce lab's overarching focus is to investigate mechanisms related to protein misfolding/aggregation, aggregate spreading, and cytotoxicity in neurons and glia using a combination of Drosophila genetics, mammalian cell culture, molecular and biochemical approaches, and high-resolution imaging techniques (e.g. confocal and electron microscopy). The postdoc will work together with the PI and other lab members to (a) independently perform and analyze experiments related to our research objectives, (b) establish collaborations within the lab and with other labs, (c) prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, and (d) present results at relevant scientific conferences. We welcome enthusiastic scientists who are interested in working on currently funded projects in the lab in addition to developing new projects that expand our research program into relevant areas.

Highly motivated individuals who can work independently and have or will soon receive a PhD in Cell & Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Genetics, or a related field are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates with prior experience with Drosophila or other model organisms, mammalian cell culture, and/or familiarity with microscopy techniques. You will be joining a growing team of scientists at multiple stages of our career, and so individuals interested in gaining experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students are also encouraged to apply. Salary will follow the current NIH stipend scale. Though the position is funded by a recently acquired NIH grant, the successful candidate will be strongly encouraged to apply for extramural support.

The finalist will be required to complete a background check.

EEO:  Minorities, Females, Individuals with Disabilities and Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
