The Organization for Tropical Studies requests applications for a Senior Leadership Position

The Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) seeks applicants for a senior leadership position:  one to manage its Costa Rica field stations and a second to provide overall leadership of the organization.

OTS, an organization working in Costa Rica and South Africa to support tropical field research and train future scientists, is a nonprofit consortium of about 50 universities and research institutions from the United States, Latin America, and South Africa. For more than 50 years, OTS has provided leadership in education, research and the responsible use of natural resources in the tropics. Additional information is available at the OTS website. By developing learning experiences and supporting research at its research stations, OTS has made significant contributions to our understanding of tropical biology (e.g. tropical biodiversity conservation, maintaining biodiversity within fragmented landscapes, monitoring and analyzing tropical ecosystems in a changing world, human dimensions of tropical ecology and conservation, etc.).  OTS is poised to address critical environmental and social issues in the tropics through the integration of its education and research programs.

To accomplish its goals, OTS seeks leaders with management skills, a record of scholarly and professional achievement, and dedication to promoting diversity. Because the successful applicants will be expected to lead and administer the major assets and businesses of the organization, to oversee large research initiatives and education programs, and to coordinate fundraising, candidates must be able to work collaboratively and competently with multiple institutions, foundations, and corporate officials. In addition, the candidate should have familiarity with educational, research, conservation, and funding institutions in the U.S. and globally. A doctoral degree, OTS experience, and an ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish are desirable.  While the field station position will preferably be based at the OTS La Selva field station, the overall leadership position will be based at the OTS offices on the campus of the University of Costa Rica in San Jose, CR.

Applicants should submit a cover letter summarizing his/her pertinent experience, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to the OTS Board Chair Elizabeth Braker.  Position is now open and the review and consideration of submissions will begin on October 14, 2019.

The Organization for Tropical Studies is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, age, protected veteran or disabled status, or genetic information.
