The Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position, Assistant or Associate Professor, in the broad area of plant molecular mechanisms with an emphasis on stress physiology. Current research areas include biochemistry and molecular biology of gene expression, plant biochemistry, virology, protein structure-function relationships, redox biology and metabolic control mechanisms (https://biochem.ncsu.edu/). The department administers undergraduate and graduate programs conferring BS, MS, and PhD degrees in biochemistry.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a vigorous and independently funded research program centered on transformative research in plant molecular physiology. Applicants at a rank above the assistant professor level will demonstrate a strong record of established funding, publications, and international prominence, commensurate with expectations for achievement of that rank. Aspects of research may include metabolic regulation in response to stress (primary and secondary metabolism), maintenance of physiological homeostasis, post-transcriptional regulation, post-translational modification and protein stability, regulation of protein activity and location, and epigenetic changes driving physiological response. This position will have opportunities to collaborate with biochemistry faculty who have expertise in plant abiotic stress responses, as well as the numerous research programs in plant biology that are focused on stress responses at the metabolic level, including programs in Plant and Microbial Biology, Crop and Soil Sciences, Horticulture, Plant Pathology and Entomology, Forestry, and the Plants for Human Health Institute. The position will complement and benefit from the newly launched Plant Science Initiative, an innovative multidisciplinary systems-oriented research center that will become the headquarters for solutions to global challenges in agriculture. NC State’s location in the Research Triangle Park provides unique opportunities for interactions with multiple agricultural industries and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center; other major universities, including Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; local research networking groups such as the North Carolina Microbiome Consortium; NC Department of Agriculture and several federal agencies.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a related field, excellent qualifications in research and education. Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience is strongly preferred.
Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three-page research statement incorporating a vision for developing a strong research program at NC State, brief teaching philosophy and statement of teaching interests, including potential course offerings, brief diversity statement, and contact information for three professional references online at https://jobs.ncsu.edu/ (position # 00000336). Review of applications will begin October 21, 2019. A link to a full description of the position can be found here https://jobs.ncsu.edu/postings
