Assistant Level Faculty Position - Experimental Condensed Matter Physics - Department of Physics

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2020 or later. The Department is looking for individuals conducting research in the areas of experimental condensed matter physics. Within experimental condensed matter physics, we are most interested in candidates studying problems in which quantum mechanics is important (i.e, "hard" condensed matter physics). We welcome candidates with an interest in quantum information science.

Condensed matter physicists in the Department benefit from cross-disciplinary collaborations and facilities shared with colleagues in the Departments of Materials and Electrical and Computer Engineering, further enhanced by the California NanoSystems Institute, the Materials Research Laboratory, the Quantum Foundry, the Institute for Terahertz Science and Technology, and the Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics. Responsibilities of faculty members generally include teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels, recruitment, supervision, and mentorship of graduate students, participation in university service and professional activities, and the development of an actively funded research program of the highest quality. Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. (or equivalent) except the dissertation at the time of application. PhD in Physics or a related field is required by anticipated appointment start date. A demonstrated record of excellence in research, and potential for outstanding teaching are desired. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
