Immunologist/Cell Biologist


The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Mary Washington invites applications for a tenure track, Assistant Professor position to begin in the fall of 2020. UMW is a liberal arts and sciences university dedicated to effective teaching and undergraduate research in an inclusive environment that embraces diverse talents and backgrounds. The department seeks a broadly-trained scientist specializing in immunology. The successful candidate will teach courses in immunology and cell biology, as well as other courses to include one or more of the following: cancer biology, research design and biostatistics, human biology, or mammalian biology. The successful candidate may develop additional upper level courses in his/her discipline, and integrate authentic research into their courses. Additionally, the successful candidate will contribute to general biology courses and freshman and senior-level seminar courses. Preferred areas of scientific expertise include, but are not limited to, research in immunology using vertebrate models. Candidates should provide evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduates as well as a focused research program in immunology and/or cell biology with components appropriate for undergraduate student involvement. The appointee can look forward to joining a faculty committed to research that engages undergraduate researchers and will be expected to develop an original research program, which complements existing departmental research programs, housed in and utilizing our newly redesigned and renovated research spaces. The normal teaching load is 12 credit hours per fall and spring semesters. In addition to the regular annual 9-month contract, opportunities for summer research and teaching are available. Continuing professional development and participation in departmental and college-wide service are expected. Completion of the Ph.D. is required by August 15, 2020.
